Hetzner Cloud – New Project Owner Setup

Hetzner Cloud – New Project Owner Setup

Goal: Create your Hetzner Cloud account, name your project, invite the SOCFortress team as admins, and submit a support request to raise resource limits for VMs and volumes.

Who should use this?

New project owners (customers/partners) who will host SOCFortress’s open-source SIEM stack in their own Hetzner Cloud account.

Prerequisites

  • Company billing details and a company email address.
  • Ability to receive verification emails/SMS for Hetzner.

Step 1 — Create a Hetzner Cloud Account

  1. Open the Hetzner Cloud sign-up page: https://hetzner.cloud/?ref=7VBM7l8KYJqZ.
  2. Complete account verification and add a valid payment method.

Step 2 — Create & Name Your Project

Project naming convention: Name the project exactly as your company name (e.g., AlphaONE, Contoso Ltd). Avoid generic names like “SOC Fortress.” This keeps multi-tenant views organized and clearly attributable.

  1. In the Hetzner Cloud Console, click Projects → New Project.
  2. Enter your company name as the Project name and finish creation.

Step 3 — Invite SOCFortress as Project Admins

Invite the following emails with the role Admin so we can deploy and manage your stack:

taylor.walton@socfortress.co juan.romero@socfortress.co amine.moussa@socfortress.co
  1. Open your project → Access (or Members).
  2. Click Add Member, set role to Admin, and add each email above.
  3. Reference doc: Hetzner – Add Member.

Step 4 — Request a Resource Limit Increase

Important: Only the account owner can request a quota increase. New accounts usually start with limits around 5 VMs and 1 TB of volume storage, which is insufficient for the full SOCFortress stack.

What to request

  • VMs: Increase to 15 (gives room above the ~12 typically needed).
  • Volumes: Increase to 8 TB (expandable later as usage grows).

How to submit the request

  1. In the Hetzner Cloud Console, open the right-hand user menu and click Support.
  2. Choose the Miscellaneous tab.
  3. Select your company project from Choose a project.
  4. Paste the request text below into Describe your issue and click Submit.

Copy-paste request text

I’m an MSSP providing security monitoring services for my clients, and I’m looking to leverage Hetzner to run the infrastructure for this service. Currently, my account is limited to a total of 5 VMs and 1 TB of volume storage.

To meet the infrastructure requirements for my monitoring service, I kindly request the following adjustments:

- Virtual machines (VMs): increase to 15
- Volume storage: increase to 8 TB

Your support in facilitating this adjustment will enable me to proceed with critical deployments for my clients. Thank you for your assistance.

After You Submit

  • Hetzner typically responds via email. If they ask for context, reply confirming the use case (managed security/SIEM workloads) and expected VM/storage needs.
  • Once approved, notify SOCFortress so we can proceed with provisioning.

FAQ / Tips

Can I request different numbers?

Yes. If you know you’ll need more capacity (e.g., more tenants or data retention), you can ask for higher limits up front. Hetzner may grant staged increases.

What if I accidentally named the project “SOC Fortress”?

Rename it to your company name from the project settings. Consistent naming avoids confusion across multiple customer environments.

Why invite SOCFortress as Admins?

Admin access allows us to provision servers, networks, firewalls, and volumes; automate deployments; and handle scaling and maintenance.

Billing ownership

You retain full billing ownership with Hetzner. SOCFortress operates only within the scope/permissions you grant inside your project.

Summary

Create your Hetzner account → create a project named after your company → invite SOCFortress Admins → submit a quota increase request for 15 VMs and 8 TB volumes. Once approved, we’ll deploy the stack immediately.
